Fury rises in Iran over woman's death after being detained by vice police

Public outrage continues to mount in Iran following the death of a woman two hours after being detained by the vice police. On Sunday, September 18, #MahsaAmini was the most popular hashtag on Persian Twitter. Amini, 22, slipped into a coma and died on Friday after she was detained by police who control the wearing of the hijab by women. Law enforcement officials denied allegations that Amini was beaten. The police said she had a sudden heart attack. On Sunday, hundreds of protesters gathered outside Tehran University, shouting “Woman, life, freedom.”
