French Senate against wearing hijabs in competitions

The French Senate has voted to ban the wearing of headscarves in sports, The Times of Israel reports.

stipulating that the wearing of “conspicuous religious symbols is prohibited”; at events and competitions organized by sports federations.

It is noted that hijabs may jeopardize the safety of athletes who wear them during competitions.

A committee composed of members of the Senate and the Lower Houses of Parliament, has yet to meet to find a compromise on the text before it is published, meaning that the hijab amendment could be repealed.
