 Fraudsters made $1M scamming Apple service centers

A transnational fraudulent scheme to exchange counterfeit iPhones for new genuine ones has been exposed in the United States.

Reported by the Apple Insider portal. /> Chinese citizen Haiteng Wu has reportedly been making exchanges through Apple service centers for nearly three years. Wu's scheme was to import counterfeit iPhones with IMEIs and serial numbers matching the company's genuine smartphones into the US.

A Chinese man brought gadgets from Hong Kong and then handed them over to Apple's American service centers, claiming that they that they are still under warranty.

Wu's scheme was only revealed at the end of 2019. He was arrested and has been in custody ever since.
