France's nuclear industry is failing to start idle reactors on time to avoid power outages and help Europe cope with the loss of Russian supplies this winter, writes Bloomberg.
The publication notes that the energy crisis in Europe could get worse if EDF doesn't complete a plan to restart a quarter of its nuclear power plants by mid-December. However, the schedule is already far behind the plan drawn up a few weeks ago.
So far, the results do not look encouraging, and network operator RTE has warned that the risk of shortages in January is growing.
These problems will leave France, which normally relies on nuclear power for more than two-thirds of its power, vulnerable. Even despite the fact that this country is less dependent on Russian gas supplies than Germany.
