France's carbon emissions are only 96 g CO2/kWh. The country achieved such low indicators thanks to the production of 63% of electricity at nuclear power plants, 14% – bears HPP and 12% – at gas thermal power plants. Last year, it was these sources of electricity that were recognized as “green” in the European Union, and these statistics really confirm this fact.
At the same time, carbon emissions in Germany account for 723 g CO2/kWh. In their energy mix, 50% of the electricity produced comes from coal-fired thermal power plants, 17% – for gas and 13% – to wind farms.
The green-coal paradox is interesting: the more “green” wind farms, the more thermal plants need to be used to regulate the energy system.
