Fought to the last breath: former world boxing champion dies at 37

Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) world champion Mexican Moises Fuentes has died at the age of 37. This was announced by the President of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Mauricio Suleiman.

“A warrior who fought to the last breath. Our condolences to his family and friends,” Suleiman wrote on Twitter.

On October 17, 2021, Fuentes was hospitalized after being knocked out in a duel with compatriot David Cuellar. The athlete was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. The boxer was operated on and put into a medically induced coma.

The fight with Cuellar was the first for Fuentes after a three-year break. In total, during his professional career, he spent 33 fights, won 25 victories and suffered seven defeats. Another fight with his participation ended in a draw.
