 Former Knesset speaker dies

Professor Shevach Weiss passed away at the age of 87 on Saturday morning.

Shevah Weiss studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, received a doctorate in political science, and is the author of numerous scientific papers.

In 1969 he was elected to the municipality of Haifa, then was a member of the Knesset of the 13th convocation from the Labor party. In 1992, Shevach Weiss became Speaker of the Knesset.

After his parliamentary activities, Shevach Weiss moved to diplomatic work and served as Ambassador to Poland for four years.

Weiss also acted as chairman &ldquo ;Yad Vashem”, the Israeli State National Holocaust and Heroism Memorial.
