Former Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard remarries after losing wife

Former Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard got engaged on Wednesday to Rivka Abrahams-Donin, granddaughter of the British Jewish officer who tracked down and captured the commander of the Auschwitz Nazi death camp.

Rivka Abrahams-Donin, a mother of seven children from Jerusalem, a member of the Chabad-Lubavitch community, made aliyah in 1996. She lost her husband a few years ago.

Pollard lost his wife, Esther, who was also battling cancer, to complications from COVID-19 earlier this year. She campaigned for the release of her husband, who was serving a 30-year sentence for espionage. They arrived in Israel in December 2020 after parole restrictions ended.

During the engagement announcement, Pollard expressed gratitude to his late wife for her “endless love” and said that it was she who introduced them and “allowed this miracle to happen.” The wedding is expected to take place two months after the holidays.

Rivka Abrahams-Donin's grandfather, Carl Louis Abrahams, was a British military intelligence officer who was on a mission to capture the notorious Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Hess, who supervised the extermination of 2.5 million people between 1940 and 1943.
