Forced measure: Erdogan explained why Turkey bought the S-400 air defense system from Russia
Turkey has strengthened its defense.
Acquisition from The Russian S-400 anti-aircraft system was a necessary measure. It is due to the refusal of the United States to supply Turkey with Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM), reports Chronicle.info with reference to RBK.
Erdogan said that he had to buy the S-400. He is also confident that this deal with Russia was worth the friction with the United States that has arisen as a result.
& # 171; We can strengthen our defenses however we want & # 187; & # 8212; noted the Turkish President.
He rejected suggestions that the acquisition of the S-400, capable of shooting down NATO aircraft, weakened the North Atlantic alliance.
Erdogan said that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and former US President Donald Trump confirmed Turkey's right to independently choose arms suppliers.
Earlier it was reported that Turkey intends to purchase a second batch of S-400 missile defense systems from Russia, despite the threat of US sanctions.
Note that in December, after Turkey acquired the first batch of S-400s, the United States imposed partial sanctions against the Turkish Defense Industry Directorate, its chief Ismail Demir and three other employees.
