US military fighter jets shot down an octagonal object over Lake Huron on Sunday, the Pentagon said. It was the fourth flying object shot down by a US missile over North America in just over a week.

On President Biden's orders, an American F-16 fighter shot down the object at 2:42 pm local time over Lake Huron on the US border. and Canada, Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder said in an official statement. While it did not pose a military threat, Ryder said the object had the potential to interfere with domestic air traffic because it was flying at an altitude of 6,100m and it could have surveillance capabilities .

The Pentagon claims this is the same object that was recently discovered over Montana near important military installations, which led to the closure of US airspace. The incident has raised questions about the many unusual objects that have appeared in the skies over North America in recent weeks and tensions with China.

“The safety of citizens is our top priority, which is why I supported the decision shoot down this unidentified object”, – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters Sunday.

Concerns about surveillance appear to have put US officials on high alert. The US closed airspace twice in a day.

China denies that the first balloon was used for surveillance and claims it was a civilian research ship. He condemned the United States for shooting him off the coast of South Carolina last Saturday.
