Floods in Pakistan: a third of the country was under water

Tens of millions of people across Pakistan are struggling with the worst monsoonal flooding in a decade.

Pakistani Climate Change Minister Sherri Rehman said a third of the country is under water, and this is creating a “crisis of unimaginable proportions,” according to the BBC.

Authorities say 1,136 people have died since the onset of the rainy season, but the final toll could be much higher as many villages have been cut off from the rest of the country because of the destruction of bridges and roads.

“It's all one big ocean, there is no land to pump water. Literally a third of Pakistan is now under water, which exceeds all borders, all the norms that we have seen in the past,” Rehman said.
