Ex-CIA engineer found guilty of largest information leak

Former CIA engineer Joshua Schulte was found guilty of the largest information leak in the history of the agency, which occurred in 2017.

The so-called The Vault 7 leak revealed how the CIA hacked into Apple and Android smartphones as part of its spy operations, and how the agency tried to turn internet-connected TVs into listening devices.

This was stated by a CIA spokesperson Tammy Thorpe.

“Today's verdict confirms that maintaining the security of our country's cyber capabilities is of paramount importance. This is critical to the safety of the American people and critical to our advantage against adversaries abroad. As stated in the lawsuit, unauthorized disclosure not only endangers US personnel and operations, but also equips our adversaries with tools and information to harm us,” she said.
