European Court criminalizes criticism of Islam

"Islamophobia — it's not an opinion, it's a crime”, — Left-wing Senator Daniel Obono said after hearing news that the European Court of Human Rights, whose rulings are legally binding on 28 member states of the European Union, had convicted right-wing journalist Eric Zemmour of “discrimination and religious hatred against the Muslim community.”< br />
The Court held that the interference with the applicant's exercise of his right to freedom of expression was necessary in a democratic society for the protection of the rights of others.

During the 2016 French presidential election campaign, Zemmour said on television that Muslims should be given the “choice between Islam and France” to assimilate or return to their countries. He also added that France “has been invaded for thirty years” and “in countless suburbs, where many girls wear a veil, there is a struggle to Islamize the territory.” and “jihad” is taking place.

The European Court of Justice, which is the judicial body of the Council of Europe, has ruled that “such remarks in the context of terrorist attacks include discriminatory intent towards the Muslim community.”

Zemmour — France's most beloved and hated polemicist. Islamic organizations and the anti-racist left drag him to court for years, while Islamic fundamentalists force him to walk around with imposing security escorts.

The European Court of Justice has ruled that EU states must restrict the right to freedom of expression, enshrined in Article 10 of the Convention, if what is said “risks of disturbing religious peace”. A similar verdict has never been passed in defense of Judaism or Christianity.
