EU threatens to cut funding for Palestinians: Details
|News » Arab-Israeli conflict
The European Union has funded the publication of books in the Palestinian Authority for many years, but that may change.
According to Ynet, since Palestinian textbooks contain incitement to hatred and violence against Jews and Israelis, the EU may cut funding.
The European Parliament recently passed a resolution “strongly condemning” PA for incitement to violence and anti-Semitism in school textbooks.
Paragraphs 28 and 29 of the resolution refer to the Palestinian education program, which states that EU-funded education must meet “standards of peace, tolerance, coexistence and non-violence UNESCO”. The EU also says it “strongly condemns the hate speech, violence and anti-Semitism that continue to be found in the PA curriculum.”
Many MEPs stressed that if the misuse of funds in this way continues, funding from the EU will be suspended indefinitely.
