The mayor made a corresponding statement on Saturday, December 18 of the city of Sadiq Khan.

Such measures were taken due to the Omicron coronavirus strain. The authorities of the capital of Great Britain do not exclude the possibility that hospitals will soon be overcrowded amid the fact that this variant of COVID is extremely infectious.

“After consulting with specialists, I decided to declare a state of emergency today”, – Khan noted in a comment to Sky News.

According to him, in recent days, there has been an increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus in London. A new South African strain has become dominant in the city.
