Elon Musk, who just last week completed his Twitter purchase, said on Monday he would become Twitter's chief executive, Reuters reported.

Twitter declined to comment on how long Musk could stay as CEO or whether he was considering appointing someone to the position.

Musk officially took over Twitter Thursday night as a $44 billion deal to buy the company closed. In his first acts as owner, he fired at least four top Twitter executives.

Sources told The New York Times that at least one of the fired executives was escorted out of Twitter.

In another statement on Monday, Musk said the takeover made him the sole CEO of Twitter.

“The following individuals who were directors of Twitter before the merger went into effect are no longer directors of the company: Bret Taylor, Parag Agrawal, Omid Kordestani, David Rosenblatt, Martha Lane Fox, Patrick Pichette, Egon Durban, Fei-Fei Li and Mimi Alemayeou” ;, — Musk said in a statement, according to Reuters.

Soon after, Musk tweeted that the decision to dissolve the board of directors was “temporary,” without elaborating.

the day before the deal closed, Musk showed up at Twitter's San Francisco headquarters with a kitchen sink and changed his public profile status to “Chief Twit,” possibly hinting at his intention to become the company's chief executive on an interim basis. Musk later changed his status, calling himself the “Twitter Complaint Hotline Operator”
