‘I stayed in the 80s’ it has become a kind of slogan in the life of journalist Santiago San Miguel. Was the decade to experiment with a so eclectic fashion that until today their garments transcend, from the one hit wonders, of the hair metal, the glam and the rock in all its possible versions, of the first generation of cell phones …
It was the era that saw the emergence of Michael Jackson, a Madonna and others whose rhythms are still valid. Anyway, it was a great time and in the case of Santiago he marked his adolescence and especially the great experience of going to their first concerts.
And, like many who know his trajectory, the 80s have also accompanied his facet more creative. I stayed in the 80s was called the radial space that maintained between 1997 and 2013 on various stations in the city (Radio Fuego, i99, The station) with such success that said phrase later became a series of annual theme parties since 2001.Santiago San Miguel and Úrsula Strenge are Carlos Alfredo and Mayra Alejandra, a couple in love since they were 18 years old. Now I stayed in the 80s is the name of a theatrical piece that brings Santiago together with the presenter and actress Úrsula Strenge at experimental hall of the León Febres-Cordero Art Center Theater, this Friday, October 8 at 8:30 p.m.
They play Carlos Alfredo and Mayra Alejandra, a couple in love since they had 18 years. The play begins when Carlos wakes up from a coma of 34 years, after an accident at a concert. In all this time, Mayra has taken care of him and now he will have to update him on everything that has happened in the last three decades.
This story was born four years, explains San Miguel. “To Maluly Oliva, a well-known screenwriter, I proposed to him to do something in theater with the idea of I stayed in the 80syes, because I like it ActIt’s another of my passions ”, he says. Oliva elaborated this story and its characters, which premiered for the first time in the 2017 and was presented again at the 2019. In its new version incorporates the most recent events in the country and the world, such as the coronavirus pandemic. In the direction, however, is the actor Fabo Doja.
“We start from another real event that occurred in Guayaquil, in the year 1987. It was the concert of the Men G e Illegal, two iconic bands from the 80s of the rock in Spanish… At that event the local public general broke the fence to go to track, we incorporate it into fiction as the event that provoked the accident of Carlos”Recalls the social communicator.
It is a comedy a bit black, he adds, so there are fatalistic elements, “but we take it with a digestible humor, it is not dense. Many will remember events and places that no longer exist in the city. Is a funny plot, although people believe that it is a romantic history, in development you will see how it takes on other nuances, which they are not so pink”. And, of course, the public will also enjoy the songs of the decade.
Tickets are available at the Ticket Show web and the theater box office, for a value of $20 per person. Are planned three more functions, on Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th and 23rd of October.
