Efremov asks to terminate the proceedings on the application for mitigation of punishment

Actor Mikhail Efremov, sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for the death of a person in an accident, asked to stop the proceedings at the request of his lawyer to replace imprisonment with forced labor. This was reported to TASS on Monday at the Alekseevsky District Court of the Belgorod Region.

“The Alekseevsky District Court of the Belgorod Region received a petition from the convicted Efremov M. O. to terminate the proceedings at the request of a lawyer previously filed in his interests, on the replacement of the unserved part of the sentence with a milder type of punishment – forced labor,” the court said.

They specified that the issue of terminating the proceedings would be decided by the court at a meeting on February 17.

The motion to replace deprivation of liberty with forced labor was received by the Alekseevskiy District Court on January 23. According to the Belgorod Ombudsman Alexander Panin, there were no complaints from the administration of the colony against the actor.

On September 8, 2020, the Presnensky Court of Moscow sentenced Yefremov to eight years in prison for the death of a person in an accident on Smolenskaya Square in the capital. Later, the Moscow City Court, on an appeal against the verdict, reduced the sentence to 7.5 years in prison, taking into account compensation for non-pecuniary damage.
