Dozens of people died in a fire in an African prison

Dozens of people died in an African prison in a strong fire.

The incident took place in a prison in Burundi's capital Gitega.

According to According to the local publication Iwacu, during the fire all the hangars were set on fire, except for the one in which the women were. At least 38 people became victims of the fire, 12 of them died from suffocation.

Another 69 injured are reported.

The causes of the fire are currently being established.
