Disappointment for Lona Chemtay Salpeter in Tel Aviv Marathon

2018 European champion Lona Chemtay Salpeter tried to break the world record in the 10k road race in 30 minutes and 2 seconds at the Tel Aviv Marathon, but was disappointed.

The champion weakened in the last 2 kilometers, lost her lead and finished only in second place with a time of 31 minutes and 20 seconds. The winner was the Ethiopian Lemagt Yergal (30:59), who overtook the Israeli at the finish line.

“It was not my day, but I did my best,” Chemtay Salpeter said at the end, “sometimes in sports you are in shape, but on the track everything looks different. I was focused on trying to break the record and I'm sorry it didn't happen and I let the audience down. I thank everyone who supports me. I want to congratulate the winner".
