Teen deaths in South Africa: bar owner appears in court

The owner of a bar in South Africa where more than 20 young people died under mysterious circumstances appears in court for the first time.

Siyahangela Ngewu is accused of violating the liquor law by selling alcohol to minors, BBC reports.

A group of young people, mostly teenagers, died last month in a bar. It is believed that they celebrated passing exams. The youngest of them was only 13 years old.

The owner of the ram pleaded guilty. Earlier, he said that he was not in the tavern on the night of the tragedy, when more than 20 young people fainted and died. The consideration of the case was postponed until September 2.

Some parents, by the way, are outraged that the authorities have not yet established the cause of the death of teenagers, and have not made the results of the examinations public. The authorities promise to present the results by the end of August.
