COVID-19 was first discovered in hippos

In one of the Belgian zoos, two hippos were diagnosed with coronavirus.

The incident took place in the Belgian zoo of Antwerp. It is worth noting that coronavirus infection was first detected in this species of animals.

Now scientists from the Sciensano Institute are trying to understand how the animals could have become infected, since none of the zoo employees had a coronavirus.

“It still remains unclear how the animals could become infected” all people caring for them have negative tests for coronavirus, '' the message says.
