Colombia seizes record amount of cocaine in 2022

In 2022, Colombia seized the largest amount of cocaine in the history of the country's fight against drug trafficking, the South American country's Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday.
Last year, security forces seized 671 tons of drugs, about 1.7 tons more than in 2021.
Cocaine production and trafficking are considered the main driving force behind the almost sixty years of armed conflict in Colombia, which has killed more than 450,000 people, and Millions have been displaced.
The National Liberation Army guerrilla group, dissidents from the FARC rebel group, and criminal gangs made up of former right-wing paramilitaries have been involved in the drug trade.< br />
Seizures of cocaine amounted to 505 tons in 2020 and 428 tons in 2019.
