Chinese medicine can reduce the risk of hypertension: 3 tips
|News » Health
Hypertension is often called the “silent killer” because it causes damage that increases the risk of cardiovascular, brain, kidney and other diseases and is a common cause of premature death. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) recommends targeting multiple acupuncture points to improve blood circulation and reduce the risk of hypertension. The effect is even more pronounced when combined with the use of fragrant tea.
Zhang Xing, a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, says that in some patients, hypertension is due to obesity, hyperlipidemia, and excess cholesterol levels in the blood, causing clogging of blood vessels, resulting in high blood pressure. Thus, these patients must first lose weight by controlling their diet and exercising more. If the patient resorts to TCM, the treatment will be based primarily on improving blood circulation and eliminating blood stasis.
Hu Naiwen, a traditional Chinese medicine doctor at Shanghai Tongdetan Chinese Medicine in Taiwan, recommends the following actions to eliminate the risks of hypertension:
- For highly excitable patients with hypertension, in addition to controlling their emotions, Dr. Hu recommends chrysanthemum tea. You need to take 10 or more flowers of chrysanthemums and brew them with boiling water. When all the flowers open, you can slowly drink tea, which has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, sedative, neuroprotective, anti-arthritic and anti-hypertensive effects.
- For neck, shoulder, and back stiffness, Hu suggests tapping Chise's acupuncture point for three to five minutes every day while gently turning the head from side to side, which can help blood flow to the brain. You can also tap the Zusanli and Sanyinjiao points, which can also improve blood circulation, but pregnant women should avoid tapping the sanyinjiao.
- When blood pressure rises due to cold weather, Hu reminds us to keep warm and drink more hot soup, so that the peripheral constricted blood vessels expand and blood pressure drops.
According to Zhang, if a patient with hypertension has cold hands and feet, frequent urination, he likes to drink hot drinks , intolerant of low temperatures and weak, traditional Chinese medicine can use acupuncture and moxibustion to treat them. The target acupuncture points in this case will be Jiusanli and Guanyuan, Dazhui, Shenshu and Mingmen.
