The crew of the Xing Shun No. 1 cement carrier urgently left the Taiwan Strait on the afternoon of October 31 after an engine failure.
The incident occurred during a storm caused by Typhoon Nalgae , according to Fleetmon.
The five crew members who were on the life raft were rescued by a nearby container ship. Another 12 crew members are still missing.
Search and rescue operations are currently underway. Xing Shun No 1 was en route from Vietnam to Taichung in Taiwan. At the moment, the state of the vessel and the fate of the missing crew members are unknown.
