Biblical Israel invasion confirmed by geomagnetic data

New evidence confirms biblical accounts of Egyptian, Aramaic, Assyrian and Babylonian military campaigns against the kingdoms of Israel and Judah.

Geomagnetic fields recorded in 21 archaeological layers of destruction across throughout Israel, reconstructed by Israeli researchers, confirmed the reports of the military campaigns of Egypt, Arameans, Assyria and Babylon against the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah.

Researchers from Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem led a team that used a robust new scientific method to establish archaeological dates. The instrument reconstructed the direction and intensity of the Earth's magnetic field recorded in the burnt remains.

Findings confirm, for example, that the army of Azail, king of Aram-Damascus, destroyed several cities – Tel Rehov, Tel Zait and Horvat Tevet, as well as the Philistine Gata. At the same time, the study refutes the theory that Hazael was the conqueror who destroyed Tel Beit Shean.

20 researchers took part in the work, they managed to accurately date 21 layers at 17 archaeological sites in Israel.

“While Jerusalem and the border cities in the foothills of Judea ceased to exist, other cities in the Negev, the southern Judean mountains, and the southern foothills of Judea remained almost untouched. Now the magnetic results support this hypothesis, indicating that the Babylonians are not solely responsible for the final destruction of Judah, – says Prof. Erez Ben-Yosef of the Institute of Archeology, Tel Aviv University.

A separate paper presenting the scientific principles of the new archeomagnetic dating method is in preparation in the Journal of Geological Research. Professor Ron Schaar, who led the geophysical aspects of the study as well as the development of the geomagnetic dating method, said: “The Earth's magnetic field is critical to our existence. Most people don't realize that without it, there can be no life on Earth, as it protects us from cosmic radiation and the solar wind. The geomagnetic field is created by the outer core of the Earth at a depth of 2900 kilometers by flows of liquid iron. Due to the chaotic motion of this iron, the magnetic field changes over time. Until recently, scientists believed that it remained quite stable for decades, but archeomagnetic studies have disproved this assumption, revealing some extreme and unpredictable changes in antiquity”.
