Murder of IDF Corporal Dvir Sorek: Court Convicts Terrorist

The last of the five members of the terrorist cell, Mahmoud Atoun, was convicted by a Jewish military court for the August 8, 2019, murder of IDF Corporal Dvir Sorek. The terrorist was found guilty of murder, and not of complicity, despite the fact that he did not physically participate in the crime. He was also found guilty of two assassination attempts and other crimes. Such a verdict was given to Atun because of his central role in planning and carrying out the terrorist operation, as well as his involvement in the recruitment of one of the two perpetrators of the assassination. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 27. In May, a court sentenced the leader of the Hamas terrorist cell, Ahmad al-Atsafra, to life in prison plus 25 years. He was also ordered to pay Sorek's family 1.5 million shekels.
