Archaeologists have uncovered the remains of what they believe was a temple of Poseidon near Samikon in Greece.
The ruins have been discovered and are being investigated by the Austrian Archaeological Institute in conjunction with researchers from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Kiel University and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Elis, according to the Jerusalem Post.
The place where the remains were found corresponds to the area mentioned by the ancient Greek historian Strabo, who described the shrine about 2000 years ago.
As reported. the remains were found as early as 2021, but it was only a few months ago that archaeologists realized that this was probably what was left of the temple of Poseidon. More research needs to be done on what was the temple, and an extensive archaeological, geoarchaeological, and geophysical survey is planned over the next few years. analysis to better understand what the structure was.
