An asteroid could collide with Earth
|News » Science and Technology
A potentially dangerous asteroid the size of 27 pandas may collide with the Earth in 2046.
This is the conclusion at the European Space Agency NASA.
Presumably, it may collide with our planet in two decades on Valentine's Day. The near-Earth object was named 2023 DW.
The probability of a collision is 1 in 625. The asteroid is ranked 1 on the Turin scale — from 0 to 10, used by NASA to determine the likelihood of a collision.
The object is about 50 meters wide. It is an Aten-class asteroid, which means that it spends most of its time between the orbit of the Earth and the Sun, and not outside the orbit of our planet.
