After many hours of fighting, the IDF left Jericho - no suspects in the attack

After many hours of firefight with armed militants in Jericho, the IDF left the city with 15 detainees – terrorists and armed men involved in the morning's shootout. These people, however, did not include those who started the whole operation – the terrorist squad that last week carried out a shooting attack in a restaurant at Almog Junction.

The operation in Jericho is considered unusual and exceptional, since the city is considered the calmest in the West Bank, there were very few such operations there. Images of the destruction left after the end of the operation, reminiscent of footage from Jenin, have not been seen there for many years.

During the operation, in which the Duvdevan and Maglan units participated, a shootout took place between Israeli forces and terrorists – some of the militants barricaded themselves in the mosque. The captured militants were taken in for interrogation, and there were no casualties among the Israeli forces.

The Shin Bet and IDF press services said that “intelligence was collected in the course of reconnaissance activities carried out after the Almog attack, according to where members of the infrastructure hide in a building in the Akbat Jaber refugee camp near Jericho, are assisted by their families and local residents, and plan new attacks. During the operation of the security forces, a number of activists and accomplices of the terrorists were arrested and transferred to the investigation department of the Shin Bet. The investigation into the attack continues".
