 Accused of corruption: millionaire brothers arrested in UAE

Two brothers from a wealthy Gupta family have been arrested in the United Arab Emirates.

BBC reports.

Atul and Rajesh Gupta are accused in South Africa of cashing in on their close ties to former president Jacob Zuma. They are accused of paying bribes in order to obtain lucrative government contracts and influence government appointments.

The Dubai police said in a statement that two men were detained “in connection with money laundering and criminal charges in South Africa.” . The two countries are negotiating extradition of the detainees.

The Gupta brothers themselves deny the allegations.
