Abbas: Israel must stop expelling Palestinians

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the US House of Representatives.
According to The Jerusalem Post, at the meeting, Abbas told Pelosi, that Israel should stop the eviction of Palestinian families from East Jerusalem.
The meeting between Abbas and Pelosi took place against the backdrop of a deteriorating situation in the Sheikh Jarrah area, where at least 28 Palestinian families are threatened with eviction.
In a conversation with Pelosi, Abbas said that “Israel's expulsion of Palestinians from occupied Jerusalem must finally end.” He urged Israel to respect the “status quo.” on the Temple Mount to put an end to settlement activity and settler violence.
The PA President is also reported to have “emphasized the need to stop unilateral Israeli actions that undermine the two-state solution in order to start a real political process in accordance with resolutions that have international legitimacy.”
In turn, Nancy Pelosi said that “the Congressional delegation held bilateral meetings with senior Palestinian officials to strengthen our important relationship with the Palestinian people.”
“We also reaffirmed our commitment to achieving a lasting two-state solution that supports security and economic growth in the region,” the Speaker of the House of Representatives said.
