85-year-old teacher accused of having sex with students

The former Burlington Elementary School teacher, now 85, was arrested on sexual assault charges in a case dating back to the 1980s.

According to the regional Halton Police Department, the incident took place at Pineland Public School.

Members of Halton's Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit say a man told police last June that while at the school as a student of 8 In 1982-83, he was sexually abused by a teacher in 1982-83.

In addition, a second man appeared this month claiming that when he was in 8th grade at Pineland in 1983 -84 years old, then was sexually abused by a teacher.

In both cases, according to police , violence occurred at the school.

As a result of the investigation, the police arrested 85-year-old Barbara Baxter from Burlington. She is accused of sexual harassment and committing indecent acts. She was later released from custody with a promise to appear in court .

Police say they are still investigating and looking for other possible victims.

Before working in Halton, the defendant was an employee of the Hamilton Wentworth School Board.

According to the police, charges of sexual assault can be brought in any case of touching a person without their consent, when it is sexual in nature, or when the sexual integrity of the victim is violated.

In addition, investigators note that there is no time limit statute of limitations when it comes to reporting sexual assault.
