An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit eastern New Guinea on Saturday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center said.
According to seismologists, the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth 104 km.
There were no reports of casualties or damage as a result of the earthquake.
