 A 212 kg tuna was sold at an auction in Japan for $271,000

A 212 kg bluefin tuna was sold for 36.04 million yen (about $271,000) at the first Tokyo auction this year, which is considered prestigious for the restaurant business . This was announced on Thursday by the organizers of the auction.

The sold lot – tuna imported from the port of Oma in northern Aomori prefecture. This year the price was quite low. In 2019, when the all-time record was set, a 278kg tuna was sold for over $3 million.

The restaurant industry believes that buying the top lot in the first auction of the year will help business. In addition, it attracts customers who line up to try the most expensive fish.
