More than 1.65 million officially registered illegal migrants arrived in the EU from 2015 through June 2018, of which resettled from the border of the EU, only about 35 thousand people.
The total figures for all three Mediterranean corridors (Eastern, Central, Western – ed.) showed a significant reduction in the flow of migrants, which made up 1.05 million people in 2015, 374 thousand in 2016, 184,7 million in 2017 and 50.3 million in the first half of 2018. According to their quotas, the EU was able to settle a little more than 2% of all arrivals and officially registered illegal immigrants.
The European Commission has been able to return home only about 22 thousand refugees from Libya.
Besides the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, upon arrival at the informal summit of 16 countries of the EU, convened by the European Commission to discuss the migration crisis, said that the EU must begin to create a migrant reception centers under the auspices of the United Nations outside its territory, in neighbouring countries.
“We have to make sure that people who apply for asylum in one country or another, there remained. Refugees cannot choose a country, then where to apply. And this, I think we all need to work together”, – said the Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan löfven.
The European Union (EU) must close its external borders by ensuring the movement of migrants only via the border checkpoint, and to work actively with third countries that would accept refugees. This was stated by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
The Italian government, in turn, prepared a document entitled “multi-level European strategy” with the migration policy, which will be presented to the partners in the European Union (EU). This was announced Sunday by the Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte.
According to Conte, the strategy identifies 10 problems, the solution of which is urgent given the established in Europe when some countries, including Italy, rests the burden of receiving migrants.
“I guarantee you that the approach to the topic (migration, ed.), undergo fundamental changes,” said Conte.
According to him, the Italian strategy involves a “structural solution, as required by the citizens.”
He also confirmed that the main task of Rome was to achieve the revision of the Dublin agreement, whereby the duties on the admission of migrants go to the country where they first arrive.
The President of France Emmanuel macron said that the migration crisis in EU developed into a political one, and added that Europe in 2015 had and continues to be currently strong pressure from migration flows.
“In my opinion, you should stick to simple and clear solutions to resolve the crisis,” he said.
