Ukrainian Ivano-Frankivsk named the best city, which “actively promotes the European idea”!
The parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) announced the winners of the Europe Prize — the annual prize, awarded to the most active city in the promotion of the European ideal. This year the prestigious title was awarded to Ivano-Frankivsk. The press service of the PACE said that Ivano-Frankivsk has sister-city relationships with 24 other European cities.
“The city has developed a robust international cooperation in many spheres, in particular in the field of academic activities, because the local universities are working closely with many European universities. The city also organizes a number of thematic and festive events dedicated to Europe Day and the European week of local democracy”, — reads the statement of the PACE.
It should be noted that Ivano-Frankivsk is also famous for its rich cultural life, attracting millions of tourists from all over Europe, in particular to the International blacksmith festival in Ivano-Frankivsk half-marathon, International festival of Christmas carols and the Days of Polish culture.
The second highest award PACE — Plague of Honour — said the town of Brovary in Kiev region and six European settlements, including AIX-sur-Vienne (France), Pfinztal and Sulzfeld (Germany), Cerrione (Italy), Kaunas (Lithuania) and Kielce (Poland).
Recall, Ukraine was in the top ten “Most miserable countries in the world”, taking in the ranking of seventh place.
