In honor of the Ukrainian dissident Vasyl Makukha in the Czech Republic will name a new pedestrian bridge over the botič river, in the district of Vrsovice, reports Rus.Media.
“The efforts of the Embassy and the Ukrainian community in the Czech Republic yielded results. The city Council of Prague has decided to name the new pedestrian bridge over the botič river, is a tributary of the Vltava river in the Prague district of Vršovice in honor of the Ukrainian decedent and freedom fighter Vasyl Makukha, ” wrote the Ambassador.
According to him, it is symbolic that Prague has taken this decision in the year of the 50th anniversary of the Prague spring and the tragic events of August 1968. Also from this bridge originates the street Ukrainian in Prague.
“Now more and more Czechs, hearing that pass over the bridge Vasyl Makukha, learn about the Ukrainian hero who sacrificed his life for freedom,” writes the Ambassador.
November 5, 1968 Makuch has committed an act of self-immolation on the Khreschatyk in Kiev in protest against the occupation of Czechoslovakia by Soviet troops.
