About 40 years ago in the Scottish town of Lanark housed an orphanage
He worked for more than a century, from 1864 to 1981. Orphanage was headed by a female religious order the daughters of charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, reports Rus.Media.
Many people who were born under the care of nuns, called those years the happiest time. More recently, however, the old shelter was at the center of a massive scandal. On site, investigators found mass grave, in which lay the remains of four hundred children!
For the entire period of the existence of the orphanage within its walls were about 11 thousand students. That’s why four of unrecorded dead was conducted for the investigation of specialists in such a shock. Apparently, kids here have died at least three times more than stated at the time the nuns!
Examination has established: the majority of babies whose remains were lying in a mass grave, died between 1870 and 1930. Thirds of deaths were under five years. The cause of death was illness: tuberculosis, pneumonia, pleurisy and similar diseases.
However, identifying “unaccounted for” dead the situation is not limited. In connection with this discovery the authorities have paid attention to the testimony of some former pupils of the orphanage.
According to elderly people, discipline in the orphanage nuns were imposed with an iron hand. The sisters did not hesitate to brutally punish his players!
For example, an official document about the death of 13-year-old Francis Mackayla in 1961 claimed the child died from a brain hemorrhage. But Eddie, the brother of the deceased, said the boy was hit in the head with a Golf club. The old man bitterly recalls — he was never able to know exactly where buried Francis!
Of course, in the orphanage are not always atrocities. For example, according to the memories brought up here in the 50-ies of the last century, children, nuns were always kind to them and always helped as they could. But orphans trapped in an orphanage after a couple of decades, met a very different picture.
Beatings, bullying, cruel and disproportionate punishment — here’s how to describe former pupils of those days today. The victim told like the roaring of a nun broke her arm, seeing how small the priest. Instead of trying to protect the baby, the woman decided to beat and hurt poor!
Until now, former residents are concerned about the indifference of the Church leaders of yesteryear. Today they are ready to swear that the priests knew all about the misadventures of orphans, but anything about it did not. After all, these people no doubt considered themselves to be servants of a higher power…
Here’s an interview with one of the victims of the brutal teachers of the orphanage. Even now, her story about the experience drives the listener the creeps. I can only imagine how the little girl managed to survive that!
It is worth noting that this investigation is not the first case of its kind. Just a year ago in an Irish orphanage, who also was in charge of the nuns, found 800 children’s corpses.
As it turned out, 1925-60 years unaccounted for dead there’s just dumped into the cesspool! Yes, terrible things sometimes happen in orphanages…
