2 children in ATI, dozens of Covid patients waiting
The Craiova County Emergency Clinical Hospital is facing an unprecedented wave of Covid patients. On Sunday night, all intensive care units were occupied. Another 30 patients were waiting in the isolator of the Emergency Reception Unit (UPU) for a place to be vacated. Due to the enormous pressure, the hospital management decided to open the old Emergency Unit, even if the reception of the works was not done, in order to be able to move there 8 patients in serious condition, ventilated. The director of SCJU Craiova, Laurențiu Ivanovici, says that the medical unit is overwhelmed. In comparison, in wave 3, the maximum number of patients waiting for an ATI place at SCJU Craiova was 12.
Two children are currently hospitalized in the ATI department.
“We did not reach such figures in wave 3. We are overwhelmed. I had to make the decision to open the old UPU, even if I did not receive the works, to move 8 ventilated patients there. I gathered all the fans, monitors, injectors I still had available and took them there. We try not to leave any patient without oxygen “, Laurențiu Ivanovici declared for GdS. “Basically, we have 52 ATI patients, although we report 22 because so many are actually hospitalized in the therapy department,” warns the hospital’s director.
