1908 Harley becomes the most expensive motorcycle ever sold at auction
|News » Life Style
An extremely rare 1908 Harley-Davidson Strap Tank was the most expensive motorcycle ever sold at auction. Its price was $935,000. It is believed to be one of only 12 models in the world.
The Harley-Davidson Strap Tank, built in Harley's first factory in 1908, got its name from the way the bike's fuel and oil tanks are attached to cross member with nickel straps.
Greg Arnold, motorcycle department manager at Mecum Auctions, said these bikes rarely come up for auction, and finding a “real” bike is rare. The 1908 Strap Tank is not easy.
“The fact is, this bike has a lot of original parts, which makes it much rarer,” — Arnold said.
Original parts on the bike include the tank, wheels, engine pulley, seat cover and muffler bushing.
