The former Mexican beauty queen and her partner were jailed in Spain for four years for stealing about $1.7 million worth of wine.

The incident occurred in 2021 in a luxury hotel in the Spanish city of Cáceres, where the couple stayed as guests.

The couple later fled, but nine months later they were arrested at the Croatian-Montenegrin border and extradited to Spain.

Not a single bottle of wine was returned to the owners.

According to the court, the woman checked into the exclusive Atrio Hotel in October 2021 using a fake Swiss passport.

Her husband later joined her and they both enjoyed a 14-course lunch at the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant, followed by a tour of the wine cellar.

Early the next morning, the man removed 45 bottles of wine from the cellar , using a key stolen the day before, which, according to investigators, he took at the front desk while his wife distracted the hotel staff.


After discovering the theft and given its scale, the Spanish police put the couple on an international wanted list, which ended in their capture in July last year while trying to cross the Croatian border.

According to newspaper El País, the couple reportedly visited the restaurant at least three times in advance to prepare for the robbery.

The court ruled that the couple must pay insurance companies more than 750,000 euros in damages. Upary will have the opportunity to appeal the verdict.
